What to Eat at the Airport

What's scarier than airport restaurants like Cinnabon, Chili's, Burger King or California Pizza Kitchen are the lines of people waiting to eat there.

But this past weekend, when I landed in Columbus, Ohio, I found a better option for healthy eaters: Ciao Gourmet Market.

Ciao offers a variety of gourmet sandwiches, salads, fruit, and other healthy organic foods. (CIBO Express is another great option in some airports.)

The temptation to devour a bag of chips, baked goods, and chocolates is still there, but the excuse of "There's nothing to eat at the airport" simply won't fly anymore.

Graze on healthy snacks every 2.5 to 3 hours when you travel just as you would at work or home, and prepare for the event that you might be stuck on the plane by filling your water bottle and packing the following foods in your bag:

  • Green tea bags
  • Meal replacement bars
  • Granola bars
  • Nuts and seeds (avoid cocktail or honey roasted nuts)
  • Natural peanut butter
  • Fresh fruit
  • Beef jerky
  • Shaker cup
  • Myoplex packets or RTDs
